The nine days or Navratri preceding Dassera are considered auspicious and celebrated with a lot of revered devotion. As legends go, Navratri is dedicated to Goddess Durga, who symbolises two forms of female energy – one mild and protective and the other fierce and destructive. The Hindu festival of Navratri is celebrated twice a year. The first Navratri of the year is known as Chaitra Navratra, as it falls in March-April. The second Navratri is held in October-November, which coincides with Durga Puja. All through the nine days of Navratri, the devotees would chant mantras, sing songs and bhajans in the praise of the deity. Fasting on Navratri is considered auspicious. Food has to be vegetarian and it might interest you to read an article how vegetarianism got evolved. Even while fasting, or eating falhar, have a variety of foods and our recipes will show you how! |
