Maha Shivratri
Maha Shivratri

Maha Shivratri literally means “the great night of Lord Shiva.” Maha Shivratri celebrations are marked by a number of rituals and fasting that go on through the entire day as well as the night. Offerings of panchamrut comprising of milk, honey, water, ghee and curd along with bel leaves, flowers, etc. are made on the shivlinga amidst chants of ‘Om Namah Shivay.’ Shivratri may be a festival where main ritual is fasting, but the consumption of certain foods is permitted during this period. Milk, fruits, potatoes and some other selected ingredients can be consumed. Think innovatively and you will be able to put together several dishes that are made using only these select ingredients.

Here are some recipes to get you started.
